Lee Coppack - Why I work for JAAG?
My route to ethics and algorithms started with a concern about the digital divide. I was the instigator of Zoom meetings for Blackheath Quaker Meeting in the early days of the pandemic. I knew there would be people left out. They either didn’t have the necessary skills or the equipment to join online. In turn, this made me think about how many people are at a digital disadvantage, and they tend to be older and poorer people. I’m a journalist by background, so my natural inclination is to investigate the issues. I had also worked on a report on AI and risk management for a client and read stories about the effect of slewed data. When I learned about JAAG, it was a natural fit for me and my concerns.
